Work on Marigot’s deck fittings and woodwork continue. The old varnish was removed last week and layers of marine varnish are now applied after sealing. Jim uses a new orbital sander after the first one burnt out on Thursday. Ray puts the first light grey top coat on the winch after the primer has dried.

Ray sands the superstructure round the saloon windows. More of a restoration than a refit, we really begin to appreciate the classic identity of Marigot and as work proceeds we are increasingly impressed with the quality of her original build and materials used.

Sunday 18th April - Boathandling Training, Taymara Training, Boat Maintenance, Lifejacket servicing on board Marigot and North Carr in Victoria Dock.
|

Maintenance work on Marigot proceeded while she was used in Victoria Dock for training in boathandling and coming alongside.
|
|

A mobile generator provides the power for both an orbital and a belt sander. The blue surface is being stripped back to be repainted in a light grey non slip covering.

The rods are fitted across Marigot’s skylights and have been removed for cleaning while the skylights are stripped back to bare wood.

RYA Advanced Powerboat Course.
|
|
|
|
|
Congratulations to Jim Moir, David Paterson, Chris Pryke, Ian Macintosh, Ian Higson on passing their RYA Advanced Powerboat course at Port Edgar. This entails bombing about the Forth at 20+ knots in the dark and not getting lost or even being late. Keep it up chaps, white uniform hats are in the post to all of you.

With members meeting on board North Carr Lightship at 11.00, training in boathandling has been proceeding using Marigot while Badger is out of commission. (Routine maintenance tasks may take precedent over this).
|
|

The Dolphin Space Programme (DSP) is an accreditation scheme for wildlife tour boat operators. It is an innovative, co-operative approach to sustainable wildlife tourism, launched on World Oceans Day, 8 June 1995. The aim of the DSP is to encourage people who go out to observe dolphins and other marine wildlife to "watch how they watch" and to respect the animal's need for space.

This was attended by several members of MVS Tay. Lunch was provided. The day gave a good insight into the lessons learned over many years of Dolphin watching in the Moray Firth.

WiSe (Wildlife Safe) accredication schemes are aimed at boat operators and crew who encounter wildlife when on the water and are aimed at communicating current best wildlife watching practise to those interested in creating the minimum of disturbance to the creatures we share the water with.

It was an interesting meeting with some good guest speakers. Lunch was provided. We are now accredited “safe operators” in the field of marine wildlife watching.
